Who We Are

George Local is a website highlighting locally owned businesses in and around George, Western Cape for the purpose of promoting and supporting local businesses.

What Information We Collect

• Mailing list: your email address.
• Business applications: business name, first and last name, email address, mobile number, website and whether you serve George residents.
• Contact form: first and last name, email address, phone number (optional) and your message.
• Website analytics: pages visited, time on site, referring website, device and browser type, and approximate location. This is collected through Clicky and does not identify you personally.

How We Use Your Information

We use your information only to send you our newsletter and giveaway updates, review business applications, reply to your messages, and understand how the website is used so we can improve it. We do not sell your information.

How We Share Data

Giveaways: If you claim a giveaway from a local business, we will contact the business owners to let them know your first and last name so they know to expect you to redeem the giveaway offer. Other than that, we do not share any other information with other businesses.

Email List: When you subscribe to the George Local mailing list, we will never share any of your contact information, including your email address with anyone. You may request to have your email address removed from the mailing list at any time.

Service Providers

We use trusted third parties to run this website: Netlify (website hosting and form storage), MailerLite (mailing list) and Clicky (website analytics). These providers may store information outside South Africa and are required to protect it in line with applicable data protection laws.

Embedded Content From Other Websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

How Long We Retain Your Data

If you subscribe to our mailing list, your email address is retained as long as you remain subscribed to the George Local email list. You may remove yourself or request removal from the list at any time.

Under the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA), you may ask to see the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, or object to us processing it. You can unsubscribe from our emails at any time using the link in every email. If you are unhappy with how we handle your information, you may lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator (inforegulator.org.za).

We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to keep your information secure, and only Kyle van Niekerk has access to form submissions and the mailing list.
